The Feisty Red-Winged Blackbird - 24" x 48" x 1 1/2" Original Acrylic Painting
Conk-la Reeee!, calls the male Red-Winged Blackbird while resting on a bulrush. This songbird is only robin sized but will aggressively defend its wetland territory and nests, chasing hawks and eagles by flying behind them and sometimes rides and pecks on their backs. The female has dark brown and white streaks to blend in with the reeds and grasses where she makes her nest. They eat mostly seeds and insects and can show up at your feeder. This feisty bird is common throughout North America and migrates south, living up to 16 years. The photo I used for this painting was taken while camping at Ben’s Lake, Bellevue, PEI. This is an original acrylic painting on canvas.
